The Houston metropolitan area was just named by Forbes as the nation’s number-one fastest-growing city on their annual list. Greater Houston has gained 667,800 new jobs since 2005 and has the nation’s fastest job growth rate at 4.5%. The median annual pay for college-educated workers is $71,900, the fourth highest in the nation, and the economy has grown in the last year alone by 3.52%. While Houston is most known for its oil business, it also leads the nation in exports. According to Patrick Jankowski, senior vice president of research at the Greater Houston Partnership, “When oil prices are low, Houston’s economy grows. When oil prices are high, Houston’s economy booms.” And that’s not all: the greater Houston area is expected to create another 63,000 jobs in 2015 alone. It has grown by half a million people in the last four years between births and people moving in. This has increased housing demand; realtors have sold over 425,000 homes in the last four years. That amounts to a home closing about once every 6 minutes! The greater Houston area also topped the list for most new construction overall.
